Corporate Volunteering with Rural Aid
Corporate volunteering, while fairly new in Australia, can have a number of positive impacts for your business and employees. These benefits include increased team spirit, staff learning new skills, and importantly a huge boost to your reputation as a community minded organisation. At the same time, you can help us to grow and better assist rural Australians.
Our corporate volunteering program is run to align with the United Nations 17 goals for sustainable development.
Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), officially known as Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a set of seventeen aspirational “Global Goals” with 169 targets between them.
The goals which we are helping to work towards with our corporate volunteering program are as follows
Goal 1: No Poverty
To end poverty in all its forms everywhere by 2030. Through our work with disaster recovery and climate related disaster prevention, we are helping to insulate vulnerable Australians from the disproportionate effects that climate change may have on those struggling.
Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
To ensure access to safe water sources and sanitation for all. We are furthering this goal by supporting our farmers to more sustainably manage their water resources and safely dispose of contaminated water waste.
Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
To promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all. In the wake of devastating droughts across Australia, farmers are left to pick up the pieces and we are here to help them do this in a sustainable way which enables them to grow and employ workers.
Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
To built resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industralisation and foster innovation. We are upholding this goal through the provision of high speed wireless internet in rural and remote communities where access to similar services is non-existent.
Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
To make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. We are helping our farmers to build more resilient towns with access to services that they desperately need. Our Hampers to Help program is supporting this goal by purchasing our hampers from local stores were are boosting local economies and helping to prevent the decline of access to services in the bush. We are also helping to provide services with our high speed internet.
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
To ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. By helping our farmers to engage in more sustainable agricultural production practices we are supporting this goal.
Goal 13: Climate Action
Taking urgent action to tackle climate change and its impacts. Climate change is a serious issue that affects all of us. We are helping to address this goal by increasing resilience to natural disasters and other weather events in rural and farming communities. There is also a growing awareness that climate change, poverty, and hunger are related and can not be attacked as discrete issues.
Goal 15: Life on the Land
To sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. We are contributing to this by educating farmers on their compliance standards regarding the natural environment.
Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals
By partnering with all levels of government and other NGO’s we are supporting other organisations to meet the SDG’s.
We have a number of opportunities for corporate volunteering within our organisation. These include opportunities for skilled and non-skilled volunteering, team and individual volunteering, as well as on-going and one-off opportunities.
One particular program that we run is Farm Army, in which skilled volunteers and tradespeople head out to a country town to do repairs for struggling farmers.
Whether you are interested in utilising your professional skills to directly assist rural Australian’s, or in our Brisbane office, or even helping out on a farm, we can tailor an opportunity to your preferences.
