Rural Aid recognises that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has far-reaching effects for every community and organisation in Australia. Despite facing new challenges, our team is continuing to deliver much-needed counselling services, hay, water and financial assistance to farming families.
Whether your scheduled event has been cancelled, or you’re looking for an uplifting way to get involved and create a positive impact with the help of your schoolmates, co-workers, or friends, there are multiple fun ways to help rural Australians in need.
There are endless ways to create a successful online auction, no cocktail dress required. If you are a part of a school, have the students get creative and create works of art that can be auctioned off to your community. You can also reach out to local businesses to see if they would be willing to donate items for the auction, such as a local distillery. Get started by using an online platform such as GalaBid and 32 Auctions. Both sites offer a discount for charities. Then start spreading the word!
You can build a customised fundraising page directly through the Rural Aid, Buy a Bale or Gift of Music websites. You can add a photo or logo, video, goal, and a message to your supporters. We can even create a customized URL for your page, such as ruralaid.org.au/yourcompanyname. Once the page is created, you can then share the link with your community, and watch the page total rise!
Our Truck Poster Fundraiser has long been a favourite among our supporters, and has helped raise funds to buy truckloads of hay. Now, we’ve taken this beloved fundraiser digital! Create your own truck poster page on the Buy a Bale website, and share the link with your community. For every $20 that they donate, the truck will be loaded with a hay bale. It’s a fun and interactive way to support the bush!
The Internet helps us all stay connected, even in times of isolation. If you were planning a cocktail night or morning tea fundraiser that’s no longer possible, you can still gather your friends together through a Zoom, Houseparty, or Skype call! Get dressed up, grab your favourite mixed drink, and hop online to enjoy a night with your friends or co-workers. You can catch up, play party games, and support our rural communities all from the comfort of your couch.
If you have a skill that you would like to share with the world – such as a signature recipe, craft, musical talent or even a workout session, you can teach it to others and raise funds for rural Australia at the same time! Start by creating a personalised fundraising page here. Then, share the link when you go Live, and encourage all viewers to make a donation.
You can also collect donation directly through Facebook by setting up a fundraiser. Click here to learn how.
If your kiddo is too young to write a letter to a farmer, encourage them to draw a picture instead, or to colour in one of our colouring pages. You can then scan the photo or take a picture on your phone and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org
If your child has the talent for music, help them organise a virtual concert with their classmates via Zoom, Skype, or Houseparty. You can then share the link to the “concert” with your community, and encourage viewers to make a donation to our Gift of Music program. The program provides instruments to children in rural communities who would not otherwise have access to them.
