As you may be aware, large parts of New South Wales and locations in Southern Queensland and Victoria have been hit hard by severe rainfall in what has been called a “Once in a 100-year flood event.”
Dozens of towns are currently experiencing emergency flooding events, with many rivers and swollen creeks still a long way from peaking.
As the depth of this tragedy unfolds, Rural Aid’s disaster assistance team is working hard to contact farmers in flood-ravaged centres to offer assistance and support. Our staff are also working closely with the relevant state emergency agencies to determine where the need is greatest.
We’re reminding farmers that emergency funds and mental wellbeing support is there in times of natural disaster. At the same time, we’re also only a phone call away if farmers just need to hear a friendly voice in a time of chaos.
Your support is so important to providing these vital services for people affected by these tragic weather events. By supporting Rural Aid, you also ensure we can offer support to even more farmers who haven’t needed our help before.
Because it’s never too late to ask for help and as these recent events have reminded us, we can’t predict when the next disaster will strike.
Rural Aid will be working closely with emergency services, government and local support agencies to assist all of the people living in affected rural communities over the coming days and weeks. Please join us in this work.
