In emergency situations such as flood, fire or drought, everyone needs food and supplies.
In many cases and through amazing generosity, items of food and clothing are collected and redistributed.
Important as these collections are, the local businesses in these affected areas suffer even more through lack of patronage when such items are donated. To help support these businesses as well as the community, Rural Aid has been involved in two programs to directly support businesses, the Farmers Card program and now Hampers To Help.
Hampers to Help takes cash online donations and converts them into Gift Cards or temporary credit accounts with supermarkets near farmers who have requested assistance. Farmers have to pre-register and can only redeem the instore voucher or account value after presenting ID and a voucher number issued by Hampers to Help.
This program importantly keeps the cash flowing to these towns. Many of these supermarkets employ juniors or family members of farming families thus providing another source of income for the families. These businesses also have the food items in stock and have paid for the freight so all Hampers To Help potentially save thousands of dollars in moving donated items and food stuffs.
Allowing our farmers to purchase essential items instead of dictating to them or supplying unwanted old items means they can retain their dignity, and means they are continuing to support their local community.
Farmers are experienced in managing their animals and farms and proving this form of assistance just means that while we look after the family, they can look after their animals.
If you are a farmer in need of assistance, fill in this form and let us know how we can help.
