Atherton Tablelands, Queensland

August 2026

Farmers around Mutchilba and the Atherton Tablelands have been navigating a cycle of extreme conditions, from dry periods and intense heat through to heavy wet season rain, flooding and ongoing storm impacts. These pressures have affected livestock, pasture, infrastructure and farm productivity, making recovery an ongoing challenge. In August 2026, Rural Aid brought 21 volunteers together for a Farm Recovery Event, working alongside seven farming families to provide practical support and help ease the ongoing load.

Across the week, volunteers repaired and rebuilt fencing, cleared properties, restored farm infrastructure and helped with gardens and property maintenance. By tackling jobs that had been waiting, the team helped farming families make meaningful progress on their properties while giving them some breathing space to focus on caring for their livestock, farms and communities. The week provided more than practical assistance. It brought volunteers and farmers together, strengthened community connection and helped families continue their recovery and prepare for the seasons ahead.
