Farming families across the Chinchilla region have faced a challenging run of drought, bushfires, storms and flooding, with the cumulative impact leaving important jobs waiting and placing ongoing pressure on time, resources and farm infrastructure. In July 2026, Rural Aid brought 83 volunteers together for a Farm Recovery Event, working alongside local farmers to help move some of that long-term recovery forward.

Across the week, volunteers repaired and rebuilt fencing, restored water infrastructure, planted trees, repaired homes and sheds, and helped clear and restore properties. For farming families like Ian and Tracey, the impact was significant, bringing forward work they believed could have taken another two to three years to complete. The week provided more than practical assistance. It gave farmers time back, helped them prepare their properties for the seasons ahead, and showed them that their community was willing to stand alongside them as they continued their recovery journey.
