Development of a Community Action Plan (CAP)

The Community Action Plan initiative works with small rural towns to identify and develop sustainable strategies, by leveraging local resources and assets.

Community members lead the development of a Community Action Plan building on the community’s strengths and assets to create impactful change.

Methods of delivery can include:

  1. The CAP is developed through a three-day community engagement process in partnership with the Bank of I.D.E.A.S. Communities workshop and gather ideas, opinions, and feedback from locals using the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) methodology.
  2. Communities participate in a Community Opportunity Workshop (C.O.W.) The C.O.W. is a useful social gathering that gains broad community interest, ideas, opinions and involvement. It is structured and facilitated as a fun and highly interactive event utilising ‘Café Conversation’ methodology. The process fosters meaningful discussion for community action and enables participants to share knowledge.

The Community Action Plan’s goals include empowerment, collaboration, inclusion, sustainability, and disaster resilience.
